Move-Out Cleaning in The Heights

Moving out of a Heights apartment usually means moving out of somebody's house. Most rentals up here are one floor of a wood-frame Victorian two- or three-family between Palisade Avenue and Kennedy Boulevard, and the landlord often lives downstairs and does the walk-through in person. That is not a clipboard inspection. It is someone who remembers exactly what the oak floors and the built-in cabinets looked like the day you picked up the keys.

Old frame houses hide dirt where a weekly wipe never reaches. Radiator fins, the top rail of a pocket door, the pantry shelves, the tracks of a bay window that has not been opened in years. After a couple of humid Hudson County summers there is usually a mildew line in the bathroom grout as well, and that is the first thing a landlord photographs.

The newer stock has its own traps.
